Poor Bailey. Since she popped out of the womb she has been in love with animals and has dreamed of the day when she would have her very own! We had a dog, "Rocky" when Bailey was 0-1 years old but haven't had ANY animals or pets of any sort since then! Bailey has such a love for animals that as a little girl she would play veterinarian instead of doctor and set aside any doll permanently for a soft, cuddly stuffed animal! For entertainment we would go to the Oakland zoo every week, visit the horse ranch near our home, go to pet stores...We've made many "deals" with her where she does something and then she gets her long awaited pet but with no results obviously. While I was away in Vegas, Kelly broke down and bought some Beta fish for the kids. We've never even had FISH! When I came home I thought, "Oh that's ok, they'll die in a few days anyway so I need not worry about cleaning the bowl!" They are still alive. So this picture of Bailey shows how pathetic a fish is for a pet. She needs the real thing but I am SCARED to make that kind of commitment! What kind of dog? Where to get one that is trained, mild, happy, and well adjusted. Her b-day is in January. This is all she wants. What should I DO!!!!?????

I love Danny's idea for dog: small dog=small poops. I have loved our schnauzer, Cooper is really cute, and I love Carin's new dog. Good luck!
GET THE GIRL A DOG!!!!! Ha Ha!
Golden retrievers are awesome. Usually mellow and sweet. Check KSL. I'm sure Chris would be happy to help you look. The small ones are fun, too. Papillions (they are small with big ears and are darling! Our friends have one and my boys love him) are cute, and others but my nursing brain and this late hour are making my mind not work.
Come on Heather, you're only denying what you already know! Get her a dog! Get a boxer! I love boxers and they are such great family dogs.
We're in the same boat with Gretel, but luckily we have the excuse of moving and the whole traveling back and forth thing. We could obviously make it work, but I too am not ready for the commitment! Our two goldfish rarely get the food and cleaning that they need, how can we take care of a dog? And then there's the expense of the vet when they get sick. Our friends were just telling us how they spent $2,000 on a surgery their dog needed. Then there's the cost of food, which we have a hard time just paying for our own food, let alone a dog!
Anyway, Bailey has lots of love to give and if you know she would take good care of the dog and clean up its poop then I say go for it. I'm not a dog lover, but I think the small ones are cute. Somehow they seem cleaner to me than the big ones. Just imagine how happy Bailey would be on her birthday to come home to a puppy!
What a perfect birthday gift!!! We'll even tend it for you when you go out of town (if it's house-trained, of course--haha!) Hailey's next 3 dogs (when she is in her own place) are going to be a chihauhau, dauchund and a yorkie. But we LOVE, LOVE Cooper's size and personality!
AND the small poops are a PLUS!
I broke down and went to the Humane Society with Caleb 2 weeks ago and we scored the BEST dog ever!! She is a year and a half old Maltese. She is house broken, doesnt chew anything, let's Caleb "fly" her around the house, takes turns sleeping with Riley and Mitchell and is calm and sweet. Randy also is in love with her. We tried the puppy thing a couple of years ago and I would NEVER do that again. Too much work. Good luck!
